Web push notifications provides another way you can allow Slate to inform you of new articles, Slate Plus offers, and more. 


How Do I Opt-Out?

Each browser has a unique way of unsubscribing from push notifications. Please follow the appropriate instructions for your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) and platform (Windows, Mac, Android).


Chrome

  1. In your Chrome Browser, visit chrome://settings/content/notifications
  2. The Block list are sites you have blocked from being prompted. The Allow list is the list of browsers you opted-in for push.
  3. Find the site the notification was from in the list and click the 3 dots icon.
  4. You can now Click Remove to allow the site to prompt you for push again. Or you can click Block to prevent the site from sending you push.


Alternatively, You can unsubscribe from a notification directly by clicking the gear icon (PC) or "Settings" button (Mac) in the notification, which opens the browser notification preferences.


Chrome Android

To unsubscribe from Chrome on Android when you receive a notification:

  1. Tap the notification when it is in your notification tray
  2. Tap Site Settings
  3. Tap Clear & Reset
  4. Confirm Clear & Reset


Safari

Safari doesn't provide an option to unsubscribe from within a notification itself, so notifications must be disabled from within Safari's Preferences.

  1. Open Safari. Click Safari > Preferences
  2. Under the Websites tab, click Notifications
  3. Identify the site you want to unsubscribe from, and change Allow to Deny


Firefox (PC)

Unsubscribe when receiving a notification in Firefox (PC):


  1. Click the gear icon in the notification
  2. Click Disable notifications from (site)

Unsubscribe from a site you are on in Firefox (PC):

  1. Click the info button to the left of the site's URL
  2. Click the 'X' next to the Permissions for Receive Notifications


Unsubscribe from browser preferences in Firefox (PC):

  1. Go to the browser privacy preferences by entering in the URL about:preferences#privacy
  2. Scroll down to Permissions and click Settings, next to Notifications
  3. Find the site you want to unsubscribe from and click Allow
  4. Change Allow to Block, and then click Save Changes


Firefox (Mac)

Unsubscribe when receiving a notification in Firefox (Mac)

  1. Click the '...' button in the notification
  2. Click 'Disable notification from (site).'


Unsubscribe from a site you are on in Firefox (Mac)

  1. Click the info button to the left of the site's URL.
  2. Click the 'X' next to the Permissions for Receive Notifications

Unsubscribe from browser preferences in Firefox (Mac)

  1. Go to the browser privacy preferences by entering in the URL about:preferences#privacy

  2. Scroll down to Permissions and click Settings...next to Notifications
    Find the site you want to unsubscribe from and click Allow

  3. Change Allow to Block, and then click Save Changes.

Firefox (Android)

In Firefox on Android, you can unsubscribe from notifications while you're visiting the website that you're receiving the notifications from. To learn more, see these instructions on Mozilla.org.

  1. Open Firefox. Tap the lock icon to the left of the site's URL
  2. Tap Edit Site Settings
  3. Uncheck the box next to Notifications, then tap Clear
